Since Wayne H has asked that "CHP scanners in patrol cars" and "CHP radios" are not to be mentioned in the same thread, I'll start a new one. At http://www.radioreference.com/forums/gre-scanners/135407-chp-adopts-gre-scanners.html#post1007739 gmclam mentioned in that post (which is below) that CHP cars cannot hear each other, & I want to point out that that is a fallacy.

For the Duplex system the patrol car radio hears both the base and the mobile frqs.

In the old days an officer could push a button to turn off the reception of the "car to station" frq, but that's not been the case for over a decade or so.

{The CHP actually uses a "duplex" system, dispatcher on one frequency and cars on another. Cars can not hear each other, even when close by, unless they specifically switch to "car to car" (where they typically transmit on the dispatch frequency).}

Wish I could delete posts too.

But for those systems that do not repeat the mobile freq through the base freq, you have to be fairly close to the mobile unit to be able to pick up the signal. It would be the same as car-to-car on the mobile freq.

It's been a few years since I tried to monitor the CHP. From what I've read here the CHP districts near the metro areas do repeat the mobile transmission on the base freq so everyone can hear, but the districts that cover the less populated areas are mostly on the old system where the base does not repeat the mobile. Is this true?

I guess I just allowed his lack of tact get to me.
Lets not go there, especially about one's tact. I deleted the posts because it was a misunderstanding and there was no need to open up the podium to discuss it.

Obviously my feelings on this topic are not positive. It seems like every six months we have to discuss the CHP radio system in pre-recorded voice-like fashion.
