As of April 1, 2009, consolidation tax for county wide 9-1-1 passed. The tax replaced a land line phone tarrif with a 1/4 cent sales tax to fund a county-wide 9-1-1 answering point/dispatching facility. As for now, there will be no changes in radio frequencies currently used. Sometime within the next three to five years a joint-communications center is to be built and operating. At that point in time, fire dispatching is speculated to be put on one channel, while each fire department in the county will have their own talk-around channels. Until all operations are put under one roof, Christian County 9-1-1 will be handling all 911 calls outside the Nixa Fire District, and Nixa city limits. Nixa will still be handling Nixa Fire, and Nixa Police operations, and Ozark will still be handling Ozark Police operations. Christian County will handle all fire and law enforcement throughout the county, and all calls for ambulance will be routed through Cox EMS.
