Police Scanner
Reading the article in the Sunday Breeze concerning the new radio system at the Christian County Sheriff's office I wanted to share a few thoughts with the Sheriff. Not everyone who has a police scanner at home or place of business uses the device to avoid law enforcement or commit criminal acts.
Many times during times of emergencies or disasters police communications have proven to be not only an aide to law enforcement but have proven to be a tool to alert the public to a pending danger.
As an example, if the Sheriff's dispatch center has information on such items as a tornado you would hear the information direct, long before it is forwarded to the National Weather Service in Lincoln and before it is re-broadcast on NOAA weather radio, when seconds count. Other items that one may hear on the police scanner are items such as Amber Alerts and missing children.
