Well, the big question came up, "What do you want for Christmas?"
After a few feigned head scratches for effect, I meekly offered, "A Kenwood NX 200/300 from would be awesome..."
"And one of the new Uniden396XTs..."
"Another radio and another scanner? Hope you have a Secret Santa out there", came the reply....
"Do you need socks?"
Never hurts to plant the idea early....

I second the Kenwood NX-200, NX-300 idea
FleetSync, Voice Inversion, and NXDN. Sounds like alot of radio for the money!!!!

My wish list is small, just a ICR-9500, AirNav Radar box, one of the new 396s'.
Not much huh? Oh yeah, socks too.

Third for the NX-200/300. Of course I would have to go all the way and get both the VHF and UHF portable and mobile radios... WITH the GPS options.

Just Fell Off the Turnip Truck

Hi guys,

Ok...so I'm a newbie...so please don't murder me if this seems stupid. I want to join in on the fun of listening in on police, fire, metro, etc in Louisville KY. Looks like they are digital trunking? (I am just barely understanding what that means...alot to learn) I have a $200 budget to get myself setup...any suggestions on equipment? Thanks for any kind suggestions :)

Welcome aboard..... For the time being you'll be able to get by with an analog scanner in Louisville.... but you'll definitely need a digital scanner when MetroSafe goes live.... If you are interested in hearing KSP you'll need digital as well. If you are just getting into scanning I'd suggest you take the plunge and, if you can afford it, get a PSR 500 (or the Uniden 396XT when it debuts next month). In the meantime (it always helps to have two scanners minimum going at a time) go to the Scanner Master page and look at the GRE Sale they have right now (PSRs are 50 bucks off).... Rat Shack sent me a Sale Flyer but all of the links go to non-sale prices (they just closed an awesome sale on scanners) so I can't tell you what they have.... There are plenty of folks who will help you get going with the monitor you buy.... Plan to buy programing software and a cable (PSRs and Unidens come with the cable, the PROs don't).... and a Premium Membership to rr.com will allow you to download the info from the rr.com Data Base to your programming software and manipulate it there ( a lot easier than doing the manual data entry)...

If you need some help in the Louisville Metro area let me know. I will try and do what I can for you. I do agree with Charlie though, digital is the way to go if you can. Even if it something like the Ratshack pro-96, I have one, not the biggest fan, but it will work when MetroSafe (Louisville Metro) goes digital.

Welcome to the site and good luck

D
