Bud, what I suspect Inigo was saying was:
  • With rebanding and the NextGen conversion there have been changes to the talkgroup lists. Not all of those changes have been apparent to the scanner user.
  • He wished to verify that other changes in TG numbers or assignments were taking place.
  • Had we been making major changes, I suspect some so-called 'experts' would be the leaders of any howls about the inaccuracies in the database.
I feel the comment and caution was prudent.

Don

I have found NO changes to any known AND USED talkgroups. Some formerly listed appear to NOT be listed any longer, but most never WERE used. And having a wrong one is better than NOT having anything at all. There is NO danger to having a wrong ID in your radio.

SAFE?? what, a wrong talkgroup might BREAK a radio?? Stupid.

The goal of the RR database is to catalog accurate, confirmed data contributed by our vast group of users. “Unidentified” data is specifically to be excluded from the database. The database is not intended to be a collection of notes or guesses – please use the forums and wiki for this type of collaboration. Entries in the database do not necessarily have to be specific with respect to their identification (although this is ideal) but they may not be completely unspecified. For example, a talkgroup on a business trunked system is considered “identified” if it is known to be “private security” or “ambulance service” (for example) even though the exact name of the business may remain unknown. “Operations” is not a confirmed description unless “operations” has specific meaning within the scope of the associated agency or business.
