Hi guys. I noticed a lot of Citizens on Patrol volunteers in Mountain Home at the airshow last year helping with the after flow of traffic. Do they have a personal freq or do they have scanners tuned to the local sheriff/PDs? Thank you for the great map of Transmitter sites for the P25 systems, and keeping the database up to date. Great work.

Thanks for the comments. I don't know specifically about Mountain Home , but some cities/counties in Idaho use Search and Rescue personnel for special events support and traffic control. They usually have their own assigned frequencies and can usually communicate directly with law dispatch.

Also, some cities have formally organized volunteer citizen patrols. These patrols in some cases have their own specially marked cars and also have radios to communicate with law dispatch. They may have many duties that provide support to regular officers, including abandoned vehicle checks, and traffic control at accidents, special events, fires, etc.

We have a Citizens on Patrol group in Coeur d'Alene. We use police radios on normal police frequencies. Anytime a COPS volunteer is on duty they sign in with dispatch and have regular status checks the same as the patrol officers. Our duties involve various support to the patrol units including traffic control, parking enforcement and removal of abandoned vehicles from the city streets.

Very similar to the CWP program in Idaho Falls.

That sounds like a Community Services Officer (CSO)/Police Services Officer (PSO) down here in AZ. Uniformed civilians that assist in investigations, report taking, traffic control, prisoner transport, etc. Peoria's Animal Control Officers are PSO's.
