Anyone have the scoop on any present/future
changes to the City of Dallas local government
800 system? In a license modified for 9-3-03,
the city has asked for digitized voice and possible
encryption to be used on this system. Are they
going P25? What is the possibility of Fire and PD
going digital?

I saw that their FCC license application was approved last week and now have the authority to add a digital mode on all trunked frequencies. The FCC doesn't care if they use encryption or not. You would have to find out from someone that knows the upgrade information. Gill

Dallas TRS

Per a Dallas Communications Company the Dallas Police and Fire are to eventually have their own iDEN Digital Radio System. Very similer to Nextel, But With alot of Channel Guard, and Digital Voice Protection. and suposedly Not Scannable. But, This has been in the works for several Years.

I am wondering with the Cities Political problems if this Might Get Delayed again, or till The Mayor Decides if She is Going to Be able to Finish Her term. She and The DPD arnt very friendly as of late.

Prior to the Cities Goverment TRS, there were several Frequencies set aside for a Digital TRS. I do think those are The Now in Use MDC Frequencies, However they were to be used for Digital Radio, But it Never worked, With Mega flaws in the Radio's, Most were pulled and Sent back to Motorola and the DPD/DFD Digital Radio system had it's Plug Pulled.

But, Rummor Sugests DPD Vice Unit, Gang Unit and Some Tactical Have Been Using either a "Secret" System or a leased system. But that is nothing But Rumor!

Anybody know who is using these talkgroups on the Dallas system?
I haven't heard enough traffic to ID them and they aren't in the RRDB.

Can't believe I missed this post when it came out. An actual, legally monitorable iDEN system (besides the ARINC systems).

I have been trying to figure out this system for a few weeks now.
The fleet map listed in RRDB doesn't work properly with my Pro-95.
It looks like they have some type I and II stuff both in block 1.
To receive properly I need to change the fleet map for the following
type I talkgroups:

B1=10
Parks & Rec
101-1 Ch 1
101-2
101-3
101-4
101-5
101-6 Ch 6

B0=8
003-01 Cotton Bowl?
006-01 data

B6=12, B7=12
Traffic Control
600-1 ch A?
600-2 ch B?
600-3 ch C
600-4 ch D

So in order to receive all of the above, I have to put them in a seperate
bank in closed mode with a fleet map.

Everything else on the system I have heard so far appears to all be type
II and are all in block 1 and don't need a fleet map.

Can anybody confirm any of this?

On WFAA-8 News at 10pm last Night (01/18/05) they showed Ft. Worth and Dallas using "Black Berries" for Communications, I guess these are advanced Nextel devices providing video and data as well as encrypted voice communications. anyways, they said Dallas, Plano, Mckinney and a few other agencies were implimenting New systems which would enhance A/V with Tw-Way Communications while ensuring more Secure Communications.

I am not sure if it was an iDEN system or what, But it was supposed to be the Radio Equivlent of Nextel, rfmobile.

Also, I was listening to an Officer on NE ICP (9072) the other day and he was saying that NE Divison were to be getting all new Radio's sometime in Jan or Feb 05 which had alot more DPD ID's programmed in them. Rumers have it that SWAT has Encrypted Talk Group ID's on the Dallas System Now. so it is said for Tactical HT Coms and Simualcast from 460.1250.
