City of Dallas Trunked System

I have programmed all of the frequencies listed in the database into my scanner, and spent an hour trying to get my Pro94 to track the system, but it wouldnt ever go into trunking mode. Finally I turned the trunk function off so I could listen to the frequencies I had put in. I heard numerous conversations (most in spanish so I couldnt tell if I was listening to the same one or not) but I never heard the data channel. I did not have any channels locked out. So I am wondering if there are freq's not listed in the database?

Thanks. turns out I had 858.9875 entered as 858.975. Didnt even see it when I double checked the freqs. Now if I could just get the friggin thing to pick up the trunked system from my house. For some reason I cannot hear Dallas on the PRO-94 from I-35 and SH-190, I have to be south of Royal Ln.

That is odd, I am just south of DFW and can pick up Denton County but can not get Lewisville. I can get some Grand Prairie stuff but it comes in very poor Dallas is spotty at best. This is all with a 296d and the included antenna, not the same just relating reception woes from a fellow Texan.

I did have an idea of using a TV antenna to se if that would get me better reception, but I never got any replies back on that topic that indicated one way or the other on whether it would be better or worse than the reception provided by the standard PRO-94 antenna.

Denton County has a tower in Roanoke, Denton, and Aubrey. I have picked up Denton County over on the west side of Ft Worth. Lewisville only has one and sometimes I have difficulty picking them up in Lake Dallas. Lewisville needs to turn up the juice or setup anther tower. A friend of mine works for the fire dept where I live and they run off of Lewisville. He says half of the time communications with dispatch are very poor due to bad reception.

If you are south of DFW you should receive Grand Prairie with no problem. The Grand Prairie north transmitter site is on a water tower located near Hwy 360 and Post & Paddock Ln. I was in Grapevine last week and received GP good on my Pro-96 using the stock antenna.

I live in Denton proper (for another month...) and I cannot receive Lewisville unless I have the 20-289 800mhz antenna from Rat Shack on my portable. With the stock duck, forget it! Lewisviille's tower is that big monster over by Vista Ridge mall, and they run 70 watts.

Lake Cities always sounds good when I hear them on their talkgroup. I imagine their portables have issues hitting the system from there though.

County booms in from anywhere. The third site is actually in Flower Mound out past Shiloh Road.

Where is Carrollton's Tower? A few months ago on the database they had an address of 172something Le Manns (sp?) drive. Drove by it and found that either the tower is a lovely two story house overlooking a walking trail or has been torn down, or was not at the location indicated in the database.

The tower is actually disguised in the house so no one tampers with it :wink: !!! I feel sad for the people living in it though, 70 watts!! jk :twisted:

It is the building I am in. We installed a roof antenna for our department and now it comes in fine. With out the roof antenna I can not get the weather go figure, but have no problem getting NE Tarrant, Irving, DCSO.

Found something really wierd. I am able to pick up Ft Worth perfectly by setting my scanner on top of my computer moniter, but I still cant pick up Dallas damnit!!!! I can hear a city 30 miles away, but I cant hear Dallas dispatch the station around the corner from me (around the corner as in relative to 30 miles away)

Try putting in the input freqs, if they are literaly around the corner to you. You will only hear the dispatch or station around the corner, and units nearby, but it's better than nothing isn't it?

They're not literally around the corner from me. The nearest station is 2 miles away. And Dallas Fire is not on a trunked system. They use 460.575 for dispatch, and 453.875 for checking enroute. They do have 1 talk group on the City's system, and that is to rebroadcast and record the simplex FG channel 12.
