City of Kenner Police Department - Kenner, Louisiana

Does anyone know if the City of Kenner, Louisiana Police Department did any changes in the past month? About a month ago the channels that I had programmed in my PRO-94 has no communication coming across. I asked the local Radio Shack and although they said the KPD was planning on going digital they have not done so as of this date. But I cannot receive any transmissions. They had no additional information. I am trying to determine if I need to get a different style scanner.

If they have gone digital you will hear static on their channels when they are transmitting. If you are not hearing anything at all, I don't know what to tell you. They may have gone to a totally new system, with new frequencies. I checked the TRS database on this site and it shows they are on a Motorola Type 2 800 MhZ Trunked System. It doesn't indicate digital, but they could have switched. Many municipalitiea are going digital.

Yes you will need a digital scanner to pick up digital systems. Uniden and Radio Shack make and carry them. The Radio Shack is the Pro 96...hand held model...there is no base model. Uniden makes the BC785D (base model) and 250D (hand held) and the 796D (base model) and the 296D (hand held model). The big difference is the 785 /250 only receive 3600 baud digital trunked systems, whereas the 796 / 296 receive both 3600 & 9600 baud digital trunked systems. All digital systems are not trunked, so the baud doesn't apply to the non trunked systems.

You'll have to find out what's going on with that system before you make your decision on a new scanner.

Kenner has been using the JPSO, and is also planning on getting tg's on the SoL system untill they can get the grants to upgrade thier own system to digital. Look in the Louisianna Forums for more info.
