Fire page is still transmitted on UHF as well as the reponse from the paged unit. After that point it goes over to 800.

The only thing still simulcast is fire paging. Otherwise I haven't heard anything on the old UHF channels in a couple years on police or fire.

Correct...Capitol and UW are UHF. Capitol is in the process of going on the city's 800 at some point soon although. UW simulcasts channel their 3 and 5 on regular 800 non trunked channels also. I'm not really sure why

My guess is so the MAPD radios can have a conventional 800 channel in them for mutual aid purposes.

I do know that the dane county dispatch center can patch any of the madison Police/fire TRS channels with many of the channels used in Dane county for mutual aid use, weather it be county channel 1, Cap-PD, C-Charlie, etc. But I do not know if they have any conventional 800mhz. in their radios as well, my guess is they do not.

I also have been told that the UW PD is going to 800Mhz in the near future, and have already began tests with 800Mhz channels and that could be part of why you hear UW pd on some 800Mhz freq's. But weather it be piggy backing on the cities trunked system or getting their own I do not know. I personally have not heard talking on 800Mhz channels simulcast from UHF, I will have to pay more attention.
