What do you mean by tone checks?
On each of the noted TGs, the techs did voice checks, and then went through a series of tones, what I would consider used for activating specific users. Similar to what they use today for activating Winside or Pierce EMTs.

Each day I see a number of radios being affiliated with specific TGs, like 50730 and 50740 shown in the attached capture. Any ideas on why these radios/TGs logon but then have no further activity?

Heard Norfolk PD doing active shooter training on TG 50711, being announced as OPS3. Also, believe TG 50730 is Streets or Public Works since user mentioned using new handhelds in "sprayers". Thinking these could be paint or weed sprayers.

I concur with what you are hearing. Kinda odd that 50711 is OPS 3, when a radio tester last week announced that TG as OPS 2. There was a City paint truck spraying street lines earlier this morning on 1st St. I'd imagine 50730 will pick up with more traffic soon. Starting to see quite a few City vehicles fitted with 800mhz "whips". A bit early to speculate, I'm willing to bet Norfolk Fire will be 50720.

Norfolk Fire was heard doing comm checks between Dispatch and Fire/Rescue 4 on TG 50720. Techs also tested what they called Fire Alert tones on 50720 and did voice checks on 50722. TG 50721 keyed up but nothing was heard.

Going with it. Confirmed-TG 50720 Norfolk Fire. Heard Rescue 1 enroute to the propane stove problem on the west end of town. No other NFD apparatus was heard beside Rescue 1.

Question for the day... Been listening to PD for a few days and monitoring Radio IDs within the 50710 TG. I'm wondering if Norfolk PD is using the same 50710 TG with different terminals to do specific tasks. I'm trying to understand why terminal IDs 1007997 / 998 / 999 are being used for dispatch or records checks, but 998 has so many more hits than the others. Is it possible that license records checks are being done on one terminal and routine dispatch calls are being processed via another terminal? Any thoughts?

BTW, I heard training being done on TG 50711 again, this time 50711 was identified as OPS 2.

They have 3 dispatchers on shift. If I remember right one mainly does phones, another does records checks and phone, the third mainly does radio traffic.

Looks like all Norfolk P25 TGs are transmitting on the Statewide VHF system (Simulcast).
