The City of Rocky Mount has now switched over to their new P25 Phase I System. The old Motorola Type II System has been Deprecated. The new System has been added to the database. If you locate any new Talk Group ID's or can identify any, please submit them to be worked.

As always seems to be the case when switching to P25, the system will probably be harder to receive that the old one for various reasons.

Just an observation - noticed only the control channel frequency has been posted. I used that to do a ULS search and the license says it hasn't been changed for 2-3 years and its a 2 site, 10 frequency analog trunk system?

Not 100% sure but I think they will keep most frequencies and switch them over to Digital. The current Control Channel is the only one being used at this time. 854.7125 is still in Analog mode.

I put in all 4 control channels 854.7125 857.2625 858.2625 859.2625 . I don't know which one is the main control but it works well. Some of the police talk groups are encrypted also. All of the talk groups start with 32550 fire dept. and the police start with 32560. Public Works starts with 32580. It still a work in progress. O yea they are still using the same 10 frequencies.

Low power mobile (3 watts?) -- gonna need to be really close!

Could be -

In my area similar low power frequencies on older systems are called "talk-around" - simplex, radio to radio. Here, not used for TAC but just local comms that don't rely on (or don't want to be) hitting any repeaters. In reality, they aren't used much.

Another local county here has simplex frequencies as part of the regular talkgroup lineup for cases where hitting a repeater is hard or impossible.

BTW - both of these frequencies are on the National Interoperability low power P25 list

I am new to the scanner world and am trying to figure out how to listen to Rocky Mount system. I have a BCD 15 x is when I put the frequencies in all I get is static. Is my scanner not compatible or am I doing something wrong. I have have running CB radios now for several years but just getting into the scanner. I believe my problem is I'm having a hard time understanding the base and what the high and low input is if someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it

Last week passing through Rocky Mount I heard these talkgroups on search:

32591 - fire related
32587 - fire related
32583 - water department, talk of shutting off when office is closed
32580 - water department, db says "meter reading" so probably water meter readers

I didn't submit these since I don't have positive IDs on them.

Some better ideas about the following Local Government talkgroups:

32580 - electric department
32581 - electric department
32582 - gas maintenance
32583 - water department
32585 - water maintenance
32587 - fire department?
32591 - fire department?
32594 - special event, July 3rd at athletic fields

Stick those in your scanner and listen.
