Yes every new system with PD will all be encrypted. Nothing is staying open anymore. Sign of the times. The APX 8000 all come with AES-256 which is being used and that's it. Nothing else to discuss anymore. Sorry to break the bad news. Anything else that is still open in California will eventually get their gaps closed up. Just takes time and government has all the time in the world.

DOJ mandate now.

Can't just let it go, can you? The same rant, over and over.
Well since you responded are the facts right or wrong? Your hands are on deck now. I have a really close connection with Ventura and The City of Santa Paula and I was told by the ones that are implementing this system they will be getting some talkgroups for their city and they do not want to encrypt and they really do not see the need but the letter on his desk madates it from The DOJ. So as an technology executive for the city you have to do what you are told with government and The DOJ. No matter if its a personal decision or not.

It all goes to to if sensivtive information goes over the air or thru their MDC. There is a connection to the way the information that goes over the air and privacy laws.

Its not that I can't let it goes. I am just stating facts not rumors. The facts are the facts and most people in the world want to know the facts and why the facts are the facts. Not everyone knows the reasoning behind California's DOJ mandates.

@uman18: Interesting reading, that. Thanks for posting it.

From the letter: "... the current radios and the infrastructure rely on antiquated analog technology ..." Hey! I resemble that remark! :(

I like that Motorola is so big that they apparently get to occupy a pretty big Chicago skyscraper all by themselves, and don't even need to put the city in their address. The footer of the quote says "Motorola Solutions, Inc.: 500 West Monroe, United States - 60661" :)
