Hi guys,

This is interesting. I figured that seeing as CAP activities are typically with small prop planes and are working a relatively small geographic area while on a mission, that they would ordinarily confine their radio traffic to their local-area service freqs, which are typically FM repeaters. In N. Ga. they are all in 148.100-148.200 area.

When does CAP use HF?

Hey thanks Tom,

Great link for CAP. All you wanted to know about CAP communications but were afraid to ask!

CAP HF Freqs

CAP uses mainly 4466 KHz for search and rescue operations. It is used mostly used by mission bases to communicate to each other when they can't be reached through VHF. I have only used the HF radio a handfull of times when our VHF frequencies were crowded or when a certain station couldn't reach another using VHF simplex or a repeater. 4466 is also used to communicate to other wings on multi-state operations. You will hear the most traffic on that frequency along with 7635 KHz which is a national frequency. There are also HF-SSB nets run by each region and wing.
