I see that there hasn't been a thread about CL&P since 2007 and I wanted to get an update on any frequencies that CL&P is using now a days. Preferably in the Hartford county area. Is it even possible to listen to them since they are using MPT-1327 trunking? Are there any other frequencies they use and/or do they have a frequency to communicate with local police depts. If not, I think they really should have a communications frequency looking back at the October snow storm. Just curious; It would be great to know the status of them if and when my power does go off.

Cl&p

This list is NOT official, however I heard traffic on many of these during the storm and other outages.

I forget where I originally obtained it. Sorry if the formatting is off.

wow, that's a lot of frequencies. Does anyone know or have/has heard which ones CL&P uses most often or can be most heard during utility work, let's say at a downed telephone pole call in Simsbury?- (no reference intended to today's accident).

This morning I heard CL&P on the 48.34 Berlin channel, dispatching a crew for a call in Simsbury. Anyone else hear these frequencies being used?

CL&P uses a bunch of different systems for different functions. Generally, they are as follows
Low band is for voice communications
Hi band for paging
217-220 for MPT-1327 system, mostly Western Mass Electric repairs & meter readers.
UHF for remote switching
900 MHz for remote switching

CL and P

Cheshire Area work center line trucks 37.76 meter and service 37.48 and 37.46 I am certain on 37.76. They also ID as Western Dispatch

Simsbury 48.34

Hartford underground 47.90 and overhead 48.20

Waterbury 37.80

I am in Bristol and know my circut numbers and their jargon pretty well so when they are doing switching I have a good idea what is happening and most switching and recloser opeartions are on radio. Not heard any voice other then low band.

Does CL&P use codes? I keep hearing them say the code "Signal 7" and was wondering if anyone knew what this meant.

It means the same thing as 10-4. In otherwords "roger" or "received" That's the only code I've ever heard them use, but it could come from a list of codes used a long time ago.
