Heard back on July 28 that Clark PD in Union county was looking into going digital as in p25... Anyone know if they are going to keep there current two ufh frequencies or if they are going to change? Also I already have them programmed into my astro saber, so if they do go digital what do I need to do differently to my radio?? Any insite?

I haven't heard anything about a move, but if and when they do, you either need the NAC code that they will use, or set the unit up for ASTRO digital CSQ (all ASTRO transmissions will open the receiver).

If you can't find the 'digital CSQ' option, try F7E as the NAC...

Ok, I havent heard anything on clark going to digital, just som talk about woodbridge. So far, it is taking an extremly long time to get frequencies from the FCC. And it will be a lot of money to switch to a digital system, and if clark pd goes encrypted, forget it.

Now, about how to recive it on your astro, you will have to have the right flash code that can do apco 25 digital operation. Once they switch to a digital system, there will probally base frequencies. On on those frequencies, are in your portable, you will have to insert all you talk groups to pick up pd 1 or pd 2 for clark. It should be a while before they switch over...

I don't think that made that much sense, but if you know a thing or two about digital systems you'll understand.

If they do go, they might go ASTRO-conventional like Cranford.

Much cheaper initial payout (and easier to program in the radio!)

What is the source of this information that Clark PD may go P25? (newspaper article, federal/state/county grant, hearsay, wishful thinking, etc.) I haven't heard anything from my credible sources on this (yet) so it interests me to find out the source. In any event, like Scott Wilson stated, they would probably retain the same band and possibly the same freq's that they are on now, (like Lakewood did in Ocean County) since most of Union County is UHF. It would be cheaper and more cost effective to just amend the license to allow for digital mode to be used, once and if they move over to the digital side.

Did Cranford do a major RF decrease when they switched from VHF? They are hardly readable now beyond a couple of miles from town center.

I don't know what they are actually running for power, but the propagation characteristics of UHF vary quite a bit from VHF.
