Are we only talking RS scanners because I think the Yupiteru 7100 is a pretty stout scanner in its own right.
Talk about whatever you like. I had a couple of receivers/scanners made by others such as ICOM and AOR too. I still have my ICOM IC-R5. Great little radio that fits in my shirt pocket.

I have a Pro 39, that I have had for over 20 years. It served me well in Korea and many parts of the US.

I'm surprised the PSR-800 has issues, as my stripped down Pro-18 works great. Much better than the hunk of garbage Home Patrol -1 I wasted my money on. This is my go-to radio for monitoring at home. One of my 2 Pro-2004's. I have one in my basement with my computers, and one in my "Ham-Shack". My favorite radio of all time despite the backlights eventually dying and the cold solder joint issues.

My 2004 is an early one, zero problems except for the backlight, and when I killed it when I modded it with an S-Meter and some other stuff and shorted something out when I left it turned on while working on it Dumb move on my part. G&G fixed it by transplanting the whole top board from a donor 2004, and it's worked ever since. The keypad is worn out, to put it mildly, and I modded the backlight so it could be turned on or off, not just dimmed.

My HP-1 worked great, sometimes, but it would randomly lose most of it's sensitivity to the point it would barely hear the local WX transmissions that normally blast in. hard resetting it multiple times would restore sensitivity, until it happened again. After a month of this, I sent it to Uniden, who found nothing wrong, but right out of the box, it was deaf again. Off to Ebay it went, same as my PSR-800. The SD card issues and the general deafness of it were too much to tolerate, and off it went too. If a radio works well, I tend to keep it until it's a senior citizen, but the last new scanner I've had worth keeping is my Pro-197. The HP-!, 396XLT (Bad audio, it worked fine), and the PSR-800 were all gone within a year. My Pro-106 and PSR-500 are pretty old at this point, but they work every time I turn them on, without any drama. It seems it's too much to ask for the new ones. Maybe it's just bad luck, but it seems a lot of people are also having similar experiences.

One of my 2 2004's is starting to exhibit issues consistent with solder joints going bad. Sometimes when I turn it on, all I get is a blank screen. This is what happened when my original 2004 bought back in the 80's died. I'm keeping an eye on eBay now for a cheap 2004 to salvage the boards.

Like many people, my HP-1 experienced lack of sensitivity too. UPMan claimed that this issue is user error caused by accidentally turning on the attenuator. Unbelievable.

Unless the radio was picking up a trunked system you could not program the talk groups into the radio. It was a good radio but once I got the Pro-92(B) it took a back seat unless I was in Orange County. The 92/2067 never liked that system. Funny looking back at the early trunk tracker radios where you had to program in all of the frequencies, then the Pro-93 came along and all you needed was the control channel.

Are you sure about this? I haven't bothered programming any talk group ID's in my current Pro-94, but I sure don't remember this being the case in order to enter the ID's in my previous 94. I could be wrong though since it's been ages.
