I have checked the database but can't seem to locate the frequency for Clayton Co. FD/EMS Channel 7. It's used primarily for Fireground Operations. Is there any information CCFD may go digital soon? Any information would be helpful! Thank you!

CCFD Fire 7

30319 -

I receive CCFD Fire 7 on 460.625/465.625 (107.2). I realize it's not posted that way on RR but I'm 99% sure this is correct.

Mike has super secret listening posts all around the metro area:lol: He has been doing this for a long time and is extremely interested in FD comms.

The Clayton FD channel 7 is the old Jonesboro FD channel. I never did check to see if they absorbed or were licensed on it.

Metro has a real nice setup at his house! One day, he will post some pictures of it!

I understand Clayton County officials have been seriously talking about switching to 800 MHz for public safety services since all of the counties around them to have switched to 800 MHz. This will also provide them with interoperability with the City of Forest Park, City of Hapeville, City of Atlanta, Fayette County, Fulton County, DeKalb County and Henry County. I hear a rumor they have been talking to Harris Corporation about a P25 System.

With as much trouble Clayton County has had with their schools, politicians, infrastructure, I can't even see them buying anything new.

CapStar - I have an attic-mounted antenna and can pick Clayton up easily on my Kenwood TK-860HG. Also, I monitor them all over the metro in my mobile on my Kenwood TK-8160. I get a good signal on CCFD even up in Alpharetta. Using a 45-watt radio is much different than relying on a scanner.

I think that what Mike is trying to say, is that a commercial radio built for a specific band will beat a scanner three days into next month on receive. This is the reason so many use commercial radios to monitor conventional PD's/FD's.
(Mike, watts have nothing to do with receiving, just transmitting:))

Larry - I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for clarifying my post - you're absolutely right.

ha ha, wonder how they plan to pay for it? this is the same county that couldn't even keep a bus system running. Not to mention, unless they plan to procure an Astro 25 SZOL system, they won't be able to "plug and play" with Atlanta, Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett or Walton.

that's the real bum deal with P25 phase 1, because of that little "enable proprietary feature" bit, it complete makes vendor A's system not infrastructure compatible with vendor B's. So much for "interoperability"

Clayton County 800 MHz Funding

Yes, we all know Clayton County has some major budget issues, more so than other agencies throughout our State, but I hear there may be grant assistance for interoperable communications through the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), Assistance to Firefighters Grants and other Homeland Security Grants through GEMA. If the correct people are involved and the right justifications are written then it is possible for the majority of the funding needed to purchase an 800 MHz System for Clayton County to use without Clayton County having to spend much money at all, if any. With Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport being located in Clayton County and the cities of Forest Park, Jonesboro, Lake City, Morrow and Riverdale all being on different Systems it wouldn't take much to justify expanding the existing UASI - Atlanta 800 MHz P25 System into these areas. This could be done if the right players are involved, funding from various grant sources are pooled and elected officials from these different jurisdictions agree to pay a monthly fee per radio on the system to maintain the radio system infrastructure, but you all know if it is done this way Motorola would be the only vendor equipment could be purchased from, at least on the infrastructure side.

All I can say at this point is this will be a very interesting thing to watch to see what happens!

while i know clayton is a high crime area, they do employ encryption for the sensitive channels. i just hope they stay simplex analog.
