Hey guys
I have been out of the satcom game (and radio stuff in general) for a few years. I'm getting back into the saddle and starting to check downlinks for activity on CONUS. Just curious if anyone has logged any US military voice recently? Or has everything shifted to MUOS these days? Planning to get the Pacific antenna going this weekend as well. Fingers crossed :)

There is a fair bit of mil voice on Iridium CONUS. Simple L-Band high gain antenna like a 7 turn helix or 3 turn at a dish will get you plenty there. 2m/6ft dish with a 3.4 Ghz LNB will get you cockpit voice. Setup both and you can combine them and hear the full conversation. You just need to run some SDR software and Jaero. Live is a bit annoying, as its a bit hit and miss what you will hear. Let Jaero record them and write them to disk, in the file name you will find the aircraft ICAO that the voice was from. Look that up and see if it falls in a military range. If so, move it aside and delete the ones that dont ( if mil over civ is your thing).
So yeah, very doable and welcome back.

Thanks for the replies so far :) I stumbled onto thebaldgeek Github site and must say you have a great collection of info about the L-band Inmarsat stuff. Thanks for putting that together... I'll definitely be reading up on this stuff. Looks very interesting!

On the UHF satcom side, I have not heard too much over the past week except for our daily Bolinha friends. Some of the old tpx seem to be gone (or just very weak) such as 261.575 and 261.675, which used to carry some occasional clear voice a few years ago. I also noticed strong tpx on 250.750, 251.275 and 269.700 (all on CONUS). Unknown if there is any activity on these but will be watching.

Here is what I've logged over the past few days.
263.925 - brief radio check from "Slayer" (sounded like)
262.125 - Aircraft Tail #8001 calling Cactus for radio check.

Activity does seem less than what I remember, but at least not 100% dead ;)

Wow the Inmarsat stuff is interesting... feel that I was definitely sleeping on this! Just got a setup going and found there is a lot of voice traffic to monitor. I've already heard some interesting stuff - just caught the tail end of something about needing LEO to meet a flight upon arrival into Cancun due to an unruly pax. Also New York and San Francisco radio have been noted. Just logged SF taking a position report from ANZ28 and now listening to a Medlink p/p to a Hawaiian flight. Plenty of non EE voice traffic too from various airline dispatchers. Definitely want to get a C-Band dish to get the aircraft side of the comms though. Now to get multi VFO going to pull in all the voice channels. As I am typing, I see 7 convos going ;)

Also back to the UHF SATCOM topic, if anyone is interested, here are some logs from the past few weeks:
260.375 - Unid OM w/ test count.
261.775 Bay Raider 40 and Bay Raider 42
262.125 "001" clg Spear Ops
262.125 Skull 22 clg Red River
262.225 Unid OMs w/ SS and EE test counts (does not sound like pirates) - "Test test test es bueno"
263.925 Doom 72 clg Red River
263.925 Fear 32 clg Red River radio check on CONR-2
263.925 Tuff 62, Doom Flight, Big Texas and Barksdale Ground Maintenance with radio checks.
265.250 Jaguar 603 clg 99 on "401"
267.050 Unid OM w/ EE test counts
268.150 Argos 51 clg Argos 77
268.150 Parfil (sound like) clg Foxtrot Foxtrot

Any particular satellite your aiming at for the uhf comms there or more of a south direction? And yea l band is fun if you have the setup for it. I need to get a list of voice channels for 98w it seems like eveytime i run mysetup I have to switch channels over and over to get locked on

This is my up to date rather comprehensive list of the INMARSAT AORE/AORW/AMER birds. AORW is a virtual satellite now on the AORW satellite. I have posted it to here before.

Hope AR USA
There is no AORW. That was Inmarast 3F4. It was replaced by Inmarsat 3F5 AORE. Are the frequencies the same? Are the old AORW frequencies now on AORE or have some been transferred to AMER? Kinda need clarification here. Thank you.
