Still a beautiful day at the air show, but overall a pretty down year. Maybe the Air Show community/military demo teams are still rebuilding after/during COVID. So maybe it will be better next year.
I’ve been going to the Cleveland Air Show for around 45 years. My wife and I went to the air show on our first date 40 years ago today, so we went today to celebrate.
I remember SR71, B52 flybys. I remember RAF Vulcan, and Nimrod demos. Lots of Canadian CF18 demos. For years the Toronto air show was the same weekend-so often military planes would just fly down Lake Erie and do both shows the same day. Something exciting happening all day long.
There was a lot of down time today. I give the propeller guys credit for doing their best. Most of them flew 3 times just to keep the show going.
The scanner does make for a better day. I would like to thank this community for cooperatively gathering/disseminating frequencies. It is so much easier programming the radio at home than fumbling around searching at the air show. The scanner came in handy understanding the problems the pyro guys were having today. Then when Thunderbird 6 unfortunately had to RTB right before they started, the scanner paid off again. The folks around us on the shore way overpass didn’t know what was happening. It was helpful to hear it all in real time on the scanner.
