What are the frequencies used at the Greater Rochester international airport, Rochester New York after the plane has taken off and has been instructed to contact Cleveland center. I'm just started aircraft monitoring. Thanks

Try the NF2G Scannist Pages. All known ARTCC frequencies over New York State are there.

Also, whenever someone is handed off to another controller on the air band, the next frequency is usually given as part of the handoff. It's the easiest band in which to track a single user or to find new frequencies.

frequencies are based on direction of travel, altitude and sometimes type of aircraft. i know that Atlanta Center does this, since its one of the most heavily used ARTCC's.

say a plane is at FL 340 Hdg. 212 and is a 762. if by chance there was another plane at FL340 Hdg. 32 and is also a 762, they would be assigned two different frequencies simply because one is leaving ATLCTR, and one is approaching ATLCTR.

Not really. ATL CTR (and others) is divided into many "sectors" of airspace. These sectors are either individually manned or combined when traffic is lighter. At the heaviest times, each sector is manned by a different controller and each sector has its own freq. When traffic is lighter, sectors can be combined and one controller may work more than one sector, usually transmitting on each sectors freq, but not necessarily. Aircraft leveled off at FL340 would be on headings of 180-359 degrees. The aircraft on heading 032 would be at an odd FL, unless of course it was just passing thru FL340 for another altitude. If they are assigned different freqs its because one is moving into another controllers airspace (laterally or vertically). Aircraft are handed off to the next controller as they pass through their respective airspaces.

In response to the original posters question. If you listen to the clearance given on the clearance delivery (or ground) freq for the IFR aircraft, the departure freq will be given. After departure you'll hear the tower controller handoff by saying "contact departure/center".

You can find alot of aviation freqs based on airport at www.airnav.com
