• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

We operate on an EDACS system and I've noticed that on some of the mobiles, the beginning part of the transmission is cut off. At first I thought it was operator error but if someone has a portable on, you can hear the beginning part that the mobile doesn't pick up. They're not scanning or anything. Is there a sleep mode or something?

Could it be late entry due to queing on a different site?
I've noticed that my portables (MRKs and LPE) both suffer a problem where it will miss an entire transmission (and proved it's not due to queing or fade) - no late entry, just an entire transmission missed. I suspect it's just the nature of the beast at times with all the software routines & interrupts running in the background of these 1st generation software controlled radios.
Perhaps ensure the mobiles have the latest firmware installed... thats about all you can do.

What type of mobiles are they and how long have they been in service? This does and doesn't sound like the same problem I had some time back. If you key the mobile for about 30 seconds with a continuous test count, does the audio drop and then come back? Does this happen on all the mobiles?

Check your system channel list with great care. If you blow one channel's data, the radio will eventually
be sent to the wrong channel to listen to a transmission that isn't there. This problem is more common
than you might realize.

Locally, some PD radios were in service for YEARS with incorrect trunked frequency data in them. Which
was the prime cause of the not-infrequent complaints about missed calls. It turned out that every such
radio had been programmed from one specific computer that had had one digit changed in the relevant
trunked frequency list.

Elroy, that makes sense. It only seems to happen on the mobile radios, and they may have been programmed by a different computer with different info. They are all about to be reprogrammed because a new site is being added to the system so it should be a good time to check everything.

Thanks.
