Like Others, I am using an SDS100 which was working great as far as picking up CT State Police (mainly D,E,F,G, but often other Troops), using a Remtronix 800 antenna (home and Mobile). With the recent switch to TDMA, now deaf for these transmissions. Conventional, DMR and New London/Waterford P25 working fine. Anyone in the SE part of the State (Lymes, Waterford, NL) that can shed some light on how I might adjust settings? As far as equipment, have tried the Shure antenna as mentioned in the Thread - no Joy. Thanks in advance.
I am out of power for the foreseeable future but I am going to have to set up an indoor discone and hope that that does the trick.

I am hearing talk groups 14102 , 14106. Does anyone know what these are?
Last night I heard 14101, 14103 and 14104 which all seemed to be related to a fire in Durham last night. There was also a Wallingford talk group involved which may have been a mutual aid crosspatch.

Jim, Yes those are E.Haddam talkgroups. The first 3 digits give it away. The way you can figure who is using it is subtract 100 from the first 3 digits ( 141-100=41 ). Now look 41 up in the tax code table and there you go. Yes Wallingford pops up a lot in the 65xxx range when a mobile might need a little help in a bad signal area.

Did someone actually called to see what was up with the HP-2 ?
As has been discussed With you numerous times. The hp-2 although P2 capable just like a 325 P2 or a x36 is a non SDR chip radio. It could work in some locations and not in others like it didn't work in your location. There's nothing for Uniden to say, they knew this 8 years ago and that is why they developed the SDS series radios.

my HP2 works mostly with Bloomfield I get about 90-95 of the transmissions. I have compared it to my SDR Dongle with op-25. I believe to be getting all my transmissions on that. My SDS 100 and 200 work also but only if it happens to be scanning Site 028 at the time. I get a very good signal so I have come to the conclusion after tweaking and moving radios around this is the best it will be but it does work.

I can report using SDR Trunk with two RTL-SDR's is picking up and recording more audio than the SDS200 locked on the same control channel just recording TG's for Troop A and Troop L. I'm going to switch my main CSP recordings for CLMRN to those and leave the Uniden's to scan conventional from now on. It is 100% a firmware issue with the SDS series, perhaps related to problems with TDMA talk groups being harder for it to decode if there's any type of distortion. But with -90db, 4 bars, it should be a VERY clean signal... My guess Simulcast Distortion is messing with me.

I doubt we will ever see any updates for the SDS or any Uniden scanners firmware wise anytime soon, let alone ever.

But isnt the sds series specifically designed to handle simulcast distortion ?

That was the claim. Reality seems to have brought us back to Earth.
Agreed. I think they can be tweaked further, as clearly these $20 RTL-SDR and some open source software can decode the signals just fine with noise filters and adjustments... but I think development is just stalled.

It's amazing what you can do with $100 worth of cheap SDR's and some cheap antennas using op25 and/or SDR-Trunk these days with continually updated software.

On the far side of my apartment all of the scanners are doing better, including the SDS on CLMRN with their current antennas. Obviously they are missing a lot still but its hopeful. I will be experimenting with a couple of different antennas to see if it helps.

I cant speak for anyone else but for me it's a reception issue in my particular area. The same scanners with the same settings decode CLMRN a thousand times better just by bringing them a quarter mile up the road.

I drove through CT twice on Wednesday on a trip down and back to NJ. I listened to CLMRN and noticed that the audio on Phase 2 groups was mostly muted compared to other P25 systems still using Phase 1. My solution was to set the volume offset on my SDS200. I don't know when I'll be down that way again, but will report if no one does in the meantime.

I found that if I set the audio at a level where I could hear Phase 2 well, analog traffic was extremely loud. I noticed that mainly on the various Med 10 channels I have programmed in.

That doesn't have any impact on reception of the system though.

Even among the systems there are discrepancies. Troop L is quieter than Troop A for example.

I just heard Troop D for the first time since the switch to P2, so maybe they are re-configuring some of the sites for better coverage.

I receive every other troop/TG over the course of the day. Signal is weaker though.

I'm in Middletown near HQ.

I have switched to Troop L Simulcast 100% of the time, I am in Avon and H is a weak weak signal, so L is full strength now, so yes I suspect some shifting things around occured... Doc, thoughts?
