I have had my 536 for a little over a year, and have had no problem with the date/time until recently. Now, it does not matter - doesn't remember anything after a few minutes. Nice touch for a $600 unit, no?

Now, I don't record, etc...so I don't really need it but I wonder what the next shoe to drop is going to be. I also wonder what the hell would have been wrong with designing the damn thing with a AAA battery somewhere - they could have carved out something for it. Would have been better than what we have now.

When you pay this much for a radio, am I unreasonable to expect that it'll work for a bit more than a year?

You must have missed the 5,000 + posts about all that is wrong with the 536 and 436 scanners.

Welcome to The Club. I have been advocating for a three year warranty on the 536 (and 436) for some time now, but no response from Uniden yet. Please see my post, http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tavern/316425-3-year-warranties-step-up-uniden.html

If you research the clock issue, I believe you will find a post by Uniden's rep, Paul Opitz (known here by the handle of UPMan), that persons will not be charged for the clock repair even if the unit is beyond its warranty period.

However, at the time of this writing, I do not believe that Uniden has come up with the necessary fix to permanently mitigate the issue.

The "other shoe" you refer to, is the dimming display situation----- not even an acknowledgment from Uniden yet that there is a problem, but the best advice I can offer you is to try to run the unit at one of the lower brightness levels whenever possible.

By the way, I happen to love the 536--- I bought mine about a month ago and it's a great scanner--- I'm just hoping that these issues get resolved before I start dropping my shoes !!!

It seems like more than 50,000 posts, but you're probably closer. Apparently no one bothers to use the search feature on the forum to see if maybe, perhaps, someone else has had the problem.

Or they troll the board and open a new thread.

cue the 40-250 posts about how Uniden dropped the ball, (and the "solutions by all the MBA's who apparently reside here), and endless other posts about some other issue.

Also AAA wouldn't have fixed anything - I believe there is a power leak issue which causes any battery to just die over time AAA or super cap.

The next shoe to drop will be your screen going dim. Its the old gaslight treatment from Uniden to make you think you are losing your mind, rather than figuring out they laid an egg with this radio. Eventually you can't get it going without setting the freaking time, and the screen is so dim you can't see to do that. Makes a good doorstop, or maybe a bookend. Expensive bookend.

If you update your firmware to the latest, it will get going in 5 seconds without entering the time.
