If you leave it off for more than a week, that can happen. But if you're using it daily, that shouldn't happen.

Hey, Jon. I pretty much use it every day, this is the second time. The first time was when I got it back from Uniden which I expected. I'll throw it on the charger and see what happens, Thanks!

I haven't looked at the board, but the HPII and prev Generation of scanners had a RTC battery issue. The SDS's most likely do too. A small separate rechargeable coin like battery that was just to keep the clock going. Normally, they should last a least a few weeks to a few months if the main battery is dead. If the main battery is dead I've had mine work fine 6mo+ later.

Your battery could just have lost it's charge most likely. Very worst case scenario if it keeps happening you can send it in to be repaired/replaced if the battery is bad. You get bad batteries sometimes in all electronics.

The HPII and prev generation had a issue, the RTC battery they used was bad and required soldering and replacement on units sometimes less than a year old. They proved a recall and fix campaign for the Bearcat (Bx96 series), but not the HP II I had even though it was the same issue.

The SDS models don't have a battery, they use a capacitor, which will generally be more reliable. This is the first clock failure report I've seen for a SDS100.

I’ve had my SDS 100 for 24 hours. With a full charge on the battery it loses the date and time setting. Is there a fix for this problem?

The scanner needs to run for a while to charge up the clock capacitor. How long has it been on/running?

Does anyone have an idea of how long you need to run the scanner in order to charge the capacitor for the clock?
I’ve run mine for six to eight hours straight and if it’s off for more then a few minutes I have to reset the date and time.
Thanks,
Jim

Charging the Battery Pack (SDS100 only)

Te SDS100 now comes with a battery pack that can be recharged with the supplied USB cable and ac adapter. You can use external USB power to power the scanner while it is on.
However, the USB power source must be rated at 1A or greater to prevent battery drain during operation. The radio will charge and scan at the same time only with an adapter rated at 1000ma or more.
The red charging LED will appear to the right of the alert LED during charging and turn green when complete.
It takes about 16 hours to fully charge the scanner with the 2000ma ac adapter supplied.
Note: If the scanner gets too hot while charging, charging automatically stops.

I might have missed it, but I don't recall a post specifying the run hours needed to charge the RTC battery on the SDS series scanners.

When the BCDx36HP scanners first came out, UPMan did specify that the scanner needed to run 50 hours to fully charge the battery. As we all know, that did not do the job for many owners & Uniden created the service modification program to correct the clock and display issues on the 436HP & 536HP scanners.

That's definitely not normal, especially if you've run more than one cycle like that.

I made an error in my previous post (listed above)... I posted for charging the main power source battery.

Here is the data for charging the internal clock battery...

From "Marksscanner.com"

Easier to Read SDS-100/200 Digital Scanner Manual

Note: Both of these scanners have a Real Time Clock (RTC) onboard powered by an internal battery. The internal battery will charge only when the scanner is powered on. It takes about 50 hours to trickle charge the internal battery up to a full charge, which will last for over a week. If the internal battery is depleted, you'll be prompted to enter the time upon power-up.

I've run the scanner for over 24 hours. Turned it off for 30 seconds and the clock and date went back to 1/1/00 at 00:00. I'll give it another 24 and see what happens. Has there been any word on a recall for this problem?

Thanks,

Jim

Not with the SDS models. You're the only SDS100 owner reporting a bad clock I've seen so far.

I have a feeling the radio had more wrong with it than they were letting on. When I sent it back they pretty much turned it right around

Did the repair notes say they replaced the radio or did a repair after you sent it in for the second time?
You and the other user in this thread with the SDS100 RTC problem are the only two reports I've seen about this one.

They did a MAC/PAC for me, a "repaired" radio. Transferred my NXDN and DMR over, no clock issues
