Wile listening to Clovis PD on 460.1750 every once in a while I would hear what sounds like a control channel. Clovis PD is not digital or truncked. What might the noise be? In the two hours I was listening it happened about seven or eight times.

Automated channel ID, maybe. A few local PD's in my area send out a morse code burst every 15 mins. If I'm using a scanner with the PL entered I don't hear the tones.

No, its not that. I have the CTCSS set. This was after a few transmissions. Instead of a squelch tail it was a data burst of some type.

If it is data bust that is only at the begining or the end of a transmission, it might be a radio ID'es (I forget the technical name). If it is data transmission (like those in the moutians to the esat) someone might be getting or sending MDT type data or more likely here another mis-configeration down there.

FYI -- Glancing at the FCC data base it does seem that Clovis is lisenced for data on that fresuency. Does this have a PL, or is it P25 that you are hearing?

Clovis PD has no data running on that frequency, it's strictly voice. The only "burst" you may hear is the MDC 1200 signalling that is being used to identify portable radios being used. This is programmed as a "post" PTT transmission and is only programmed into the portable radios.
