The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok. Ive had an HT1250 for awhile now and it works great!! I have a CM300 on the way from an ebay purchase and have some questions about both of them.
1. Im using QC-2 on them, is there a setting in the CPS to have them alert when our pagers go off and then reset AUTOMATICALLY?? ( 4 beeps then start scanning again) they will stay on scan most of the time and will alert, but it will stay on that channel until I press any button...
2. The ht has 3 zones I put in it, can I put zones in the cm?? All I see is scan lists...
3. I have read on this site that in order to pgm the cm, I will need a special cable or an adaptor to do it. I currently have a cable that is 2 in 1 ribless serial cable that does my pro3150s and m1225s, can I add a jumper wire on pins 1 and 3? Or will it still not work and il end up buying the cm cable?

1. Not sure on this one. Have to do some research.

2. The CM300 doesn't do zones.

3. Yes, you can just jumper 1 & 3 to program the CM. Some have done it with a switch while others have built their own adapters. (NOTE: That is pins 1 & 3 of the radio's mic connector.)

I had a CDM-1250 that was used as a station alerting base. Same problem, would stop scan after a call alert. Was all over the the CPS but couldn't get it to resume scan by itself. Looks like this is a hard written thing, for a mobile operator to know they were paged when they get back in the vehicle.

On this radio the horn alert output was used to trip the station. My kludge to put the radio back into scan was to add a timer board. The horn alert would trigger it, then a minute later the timer would cycle momentarily. The timer output was connected to the external monitor. This would fake the radio that the mic went off, then on hook resuming scan.

Not practical for the HT though. Not sure about the CM300 but shooting from the hip I'd assume it's the same.

Thanks for the reply!! Am i jumpering pins 1 & 2 looking at the pgm cable from the front with tab on top or bottom?

If you jumper pins 1 & 2, you will not be happy with the results.

It is supposed to be pins 1 & 3. That is ONE and THREE.

Here's the mic pinouts:

Im not sure if our system is trunked or not, but all of our trucks have kenwood TK series radios in them and have something similar to motorola MDC1200 on pre and post. niether the HT1250 or CM300 can decode who is talking.. not even their ID#. is it a different kind of ID encode/decode? On the kenwoods it shows Kaufman R-1 or 952-Davis. Some other agencies use motorola radios with MDC1200 and mine will pick up their ID#S. it may be a compatibility issue...

It's probably Kenwood Fleetsync ID's, which can only be decoded on Kenwood radios.

On the CPS, i have almost all my channels on MDC TX and RX. it decodes the mdc on the channels that have either PL tones or go through a repeater. but the ones that are simplex will not decode the numbers. i understand that the CM will not decode an alias, just the numerics. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I got it to do as I wanted as far as decoding QC-II, alert, then reumse scanning. on the QC-II sys menu, on the call type, i set it to sel call, auto reset timer type-none.

now, it still wont decode the MDC1200 ID#s. i know it only does the ID # with no alpha tag, It does work on our county channel, but not on simplex... what am i doing wrong?? or will it not do it in simplex? it has the same freq for TX and RX and no PL if that helps any...

Although not exactly the same radio as the CM300, I just tested two PR400s and they seem to decode MDC fine on simplex, CSQ channels.

Here are a couple of screenshots of the programming I used:

Try it on TPL OR DPL it works fine on my cp200s which means it should work on the mobile versions too. I'll post a screen shot soon.

I did it on the CM300 and it does the DOS beeps but still dosent show the #. i also set the HT1250 exactly as the CM, and still no #. I can send the codeplugs i have to see if im still doin something wrong. it will work fine on most of the others and they go through repeaters. maybe these are not able to do as i want them??

So do they always decode on repeated channels but never on simplex/talkaround channels? If so there may be a limitation in the firmware that keeps them from decoding on talkaround channels. I seem to remember reading that some of the older series Motorola radios were like this.

Try this: On your simplex CSQ channels that you want to decode MDC on, program in a low frequency PL tone (e.g. 67.0) only on the transmit side, set "TPL Reverse Burst" to none, and uncheck "Allow Talkaround". This might trick the radio into thinking it is a repeated channel and will at least get it out of talkarond mode. You will now be transmitting a PL tone on an otherwise CSQ channel, but it shouldn't be noticeable due to the low frequency tone and lack of reverse burst.

Out of curiosity, what is the firmware version on the CM300? The two PR400s that I tested were R03.04.02 and R03.07.01.

I appreciate the input. i set them both as you stated and still wont decode.. bummer! My cm is running r3.04.02 firmware and 3.02 codeplug version.

Hmm, do any of the other radios in the system decode properly on the simplex channels? Is the ID sent at the beginning or end of transmissions? What kind of radios are in use in the system? Are you positive the IDs being sent are in fact MDC1200?

One other thing you could check is the channel bandwith. If you have it set at 12.5 KHz, and the system is still 25 KHz (or vice-verse); you could run into some problems with MDC, among other things.

I don't really know of much else that could cause them not to decode.
