Where did they go? I haven't heard them in a couple of days on their listed talkgroup. I tried searching a little bit tonight but no luck. Any ideas. I thought they might be sharing the air w/ another talkgroup (like Hickoty Grove) but didn't hear them there either.

I heard Div11 officers on Hickory Grove TG yesterday. Does anyone know if this move is permanent or are they just short of dispatchers.

They are on 8976 right now which I believe is Hickory Grove (old Charlie 3). Usually they have been on 8912, North, old Charlie 1. They can flop back and forth between which is the master and which is the slave. It is just the way the dispatcher clicks them in when they are patched together.

As a side note, the radios in the squad cars and the officers HT's will work the same if they are tuned to Hickory Grove or North (Charlie 3 or Charlie 1) when they are patched together. It only affects us scanner nuts.

Just curious, Bill ... does the dispatcher assigned to a console reset the console each time there is a shift change ?

I would think the talkgroup patch is normally in place 24/7, so I'm trying to imagine if some dispatchers have a particular way they want their screen setup. Do some of the veterans clear the screen of talkgroup buttons, and re-establish the talkgroup selections at shift start-up ?

While I'm at it, do you know the division number for Freedom Division ?

Also, is CMPD the dispatch point for the net on 453.475 MHz rptr / 136.5 Hz tone ? The net appears to consist of security stations, and walking or bike units, in the uptown area. Units identify by building or street location, and might be non-city-employeed security officers.

Could this be the UHF side of the Secure Net talkgroup ?

Thanks !

Hi Jeff,
No the dispatcher does not reset the patches at the shift change. It is only done when the patch goes down and then is repatched. For example if the Charlie-1 (I still like the old names.) gets a swat call or something big they will stop the patch and each division (c-1 and c-3) will get their own dispatcher until things quiet down. When they do they will repatch again. Then it is just a matter of how the computer screen is clicked, I don't believe there is a set protocol but I am not sure. I am only a volunteer you know, Hahaha. The actual police radios don't care which is the master, is only scanners that see the problem.

Freedom Division, the old Adam-3, is division 27. It is usually patched with the old Adam-2, now called Westover and it is division 26.

I did not know about the 453.475 but we were talking about a related thing at class last week. The cop says they have communications with the private security guards at many of the uptown buildings such as Wachovia and BofA. I have heard one sided communication on the Charlotte TRS but this is probably the other side. From the class I am taking and the info you said I would guess this is the link used.

Bingo ... that would be the same, Bill. A primary unit or base from each of the major buildings will check into the net during occasional radio checks by an unknown control station. All the comms on 453.475 are repeated.

At one time - prior to the move to trunking in 1990 and 1991, Mecklenberg County Police used the frequency. I believe it was their "info" channel.

BTW, another old MPD frequency is still in use ... 453.750 MHz rptd, with a DPL of 265. I believe the Colliseum Authority is the present user on this channel.

Thanks, Bill, for your comments about the dispatchers and talkgroup patching, and the division number for Freedom Div.
