I just got a 396 and I can get everything I want to work reliably except the Colorado P25 system for CSP. I am in Boulder and I can't seem to find a reliable control channel. I am relying on the pre-programmed system that came with the 396, but I've double checked frequencies against the database on this site and they seem to all be there.

Something I notice (when the radio can get a control channel at all) is that the radio returns a site ID of 0112, which is not listed in the RR database. The control channel frequency is 868.9875, which corresponds to the Mead site (#268). I was on the west slope last week (Aspen area) and got nothing for the CSP 4C troop frequencies. I got Craig dispatch on VHF channel 1.

In the Denver area I am getting distortion on the CSP channels I receive. I assume that is a function of needing to adjust the P25 threshold settings, but I don't know enough about the system to understand what the display is telling me.

Hi Erik,

First of all, welcome to Radio Reference and the Colorado forum. Have you tried the Thorodin Mt. site (868.9750) for CSP 6C Troop? I am not sure how well the coverage is for that site in Boulder but I do pick up the 6C units all the time here in Northglenn.

Hi and welcome. Great to hav another Boulder County'er in the forum. I use Golden CC in Longmont and it works great. But in some spots of City of Boulder I lose the reception. But try that one, there is also a tower in Mead you can try.

Again welcome.

Thanks Todd and Chris for the suggestions. Todd, the link is very helpful. Chris, I know that LEU does some fanatastic work. BES is just down the street from me.

Does anyone know how to force the 396 to use a particular control channel?

Thanks. I wish I could be more help about the digital system but since Boulder still lacks a major use in the system I don't really listen all that much to it. But when I was programming my 396 I noticed that the preset Colorado digital system in the scanner and the programming software from Uniden had all the control channels and thensome all in the system. But i'm not sure if the scanner picks up on the strongest signal or what.
