Check the standard VHF marine channels first; I kinda doubt they would use the land mobile channels for an incident like the grounded carrier. 73 Mike

VHF 23 is the primary working channel for the broad territory of "Sector Baltimore." VHF 83 is typically used by the CG Auxiliary. VHF 21 is Station Annapolis. Other marine channels listed to "CG" or "US Govt" are used, at times, for actual operations. Obviously, 16 & 22 are of interest.

Channel 23A is now used by Sector Baltimore and all Stations under Sector. Sector Baltimore made this change in late summer last year. Station Annapolis now uses 23A like all other Station in Sector. The Auxiliary should be on the Stations and Sector's Working Channel of 23A at all times. The primary VHF-FM marine channels to receive the CG in this area would be 16, 22A and 23A. You should also enter channels 21A, 81A, and 83A that would be used if 23A is very busy. These other CG channels will also be used in large CG operations or in special tasks/units. Channel 12 is used by CG as backup to channel 22A.

Have all of the new CG VHF non-marine (likeCG-01) channels loaded in the scanner, but haven't received anything on these freqs in the Baltimore Area. I guess they may have in Washington, DC last week, but not close to receive them.

Another interesting channel is 13. It is not CG, but used by large vessel to make passing agreements.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that update, Larry. Are the CG helos that pop down from NJ now remaining on 23, as well? I seem to recall them previously using 81 or perhaps some other channel as their airborne "guard" freq. Any idea?

Dave,

Helos hold radio guard with whatever Sector area they are located in. In Sector Baltimore this will be channel 23A. When in Sector Delaware Bay will guard their Sector's working channel. I think they may use channel 83A, but should scan all VHF-FM Marine channels listed assigned to the USCG. Helos can be heard even if other Sectors can't, due there height.
