Hello,

I am trying to put a in line a gasfet low noise amp for 260 mhz. This amp requires 12v to be supplied via the coax but I have no power supply for this type of setup, can anyone reccommend a simple safe way to send 12v up the coax without cooking the scanner? I dont just want to put power to the coax if I can damage the radio. All of my previous amps power were supplied directly to the amp circuit via a wall wart or batteries.

Thanks very much!

There are amps sold by Radio Shack and others that include the power injectors needed to power these type of amps. They include (I believe) the necessary circuit to block the DC voltage from reaching the receiver. It might be easier (and safer) to buy one of these that has the proper voltage for the amp you have than to try and build your own.

In Line Amps

Try this website. Advanced Receiver Research. They sell high quality preamps, splitters, etc. I am using 3 different freq. pre-amps and am very pleased with the performance. Do a search on Google, you'll find it.

Mast mount pre-amps

This is just an opinion.
Stay away from RS. I bought the TV antenna pre-amp with hopes of boosting a signal to improve local HDTV reception. Started with a large new TV ant. and then added the amp. No improvement. All cable and connectors are brand new. I just dont believe RS puts much into the products they rave about. Search the web and read. Many different options out there.

Good luck.

The connectors do not matter since you will not be connecting the power coupler directly to the amp.

Just make up cables that do the conversions you need.
