Anyone know of a vendor in the Northern Baltimore Co area that carries LMR-400 coax? Thought I'd check before shipping some in via a website store.

There's some mail order place in Timonium on Greenspring drive. Can't remeber their name off hand though. I don't know if they sell coax but I bought a charger from them once before. They're in the yellow pages.

Dave, there is a great bunch of folks at The RF Connection here in Maryland. I've used them for all my coax needs. They'll make any kind of coax with any kind of connectors you want and ship it to your door. They sure do carry the LMR400 and even the LMR400Ultraflex should you need it. Take a look at their tables for attenuation at various freqs and lengths of coax - very helpful stuff. Their URL:

BTW, the place I was talking about isn't Tessco. It's another place right around the corner. It's called Communications Electronics.

Thanks for the info fellas. I'll give the RF Connection people a call...their prices are certainly reasonable. Nice to deal w/ local vendors when possible.

Got my LMR-400 today....the folks at RFConnection were great to deal with - I'd highly recommend them.

Definite improvement over the run of RG-6 QS for my 800 yagi setup. Interesting thing is that I brought a digital radio into the attic and used a 6-foot rg-6 jumper for aiming the yagi a week ago.....and my 40 foot run of LMR-400 offers better reception than the test cable rg-6 did. Perhaps a mismatch issue was corrected (since the yagi is supposedly 50 ohm).

Thanks again for the input on cable vendors.

Dave, when I first dealt with RFC, I thought their service was outstanding but didn't know if it was just with me. But every time I send someone to them, I hear the same good report. I presume you ordered your 400 with connectors and if you'll give them a real close inspection, you'll see they are just perfectly constructed. Glad you can see the signal improvement. I always mention impedance mismatches and keep hearing from people that it's not that important when you're just receiving and not transmitting. Yours is a perfect example of why mismatched impedance does matter. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you've had a good experience with them.
