Cobra 138 channel knob came off- What channel am I on?

I just bought my first CB a Cobra 138 used and dusty from a local flea market for $5. In the process of cleaning it, I pulled off the channel knob and now I have no idea what channel it's actually set to. The knob will go back on in any position as it is not keyed. How do I put it on so that what reads "CH1" is actually CH1?

First of all you can key up the radio, transmit and ask what channel you are on (if or when you hear some one talking) or better yet hook the radio up to a frequency counter note what channel (frequency) it is on and remove the knob and re install it to show the proper frequency. Hope this helps.

If you have a scanner that can cover CB, fire it up, key the mic on the CB, and see where the scanner stops.

Or get another CB and flip through the channels while keying the mystery meat.

Once you know where you are, pull the knob and replace it so it reads the correct channel.

If you are able to power up the radio and have an antenna or dummy load rotate the dial till you are unable to transmit or receive This will be the blank channel....

Turns out a friend has a CB in his motorhome so we were able to use that to get it all straightened out. Thanks!
