• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I learned from these boards that most people have no access to certain items and when some one does they preach the scary holy FCC lawbook. People tend to do things like this when they are jealous. I have also found out many here follow actual admins around who watch this site and narc any one out asking simple questions. As if it gives them some status boost being the pet of a admin of system. System admin could care less who anyone here is. His job is to watch and keep his system secure at all costs. Not friend every tom, dick and harry. I agree a frequency counter. Old radios with old tricks are handy to have and a good collectors item to keep around.

Here's the thing. Yeah, it isn't smart to come on here and post a topic like this, BUT, being a whiny little snitch and yelling "THIS GUY'S DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL!" is another thing entirely. Posting the crap you guys are posting is just like screaming it out loud. This topic should have only had 2 posts, the original question and the following:

"You will have to get a frequency counter and key the radio to find out what the frequencies are"

Simply put, accurate, to the point, and no crying "boo hoo, you're a bad, bad person"

You people are the same crybabies that would rat out your own best friend for cheating on his wife.

Just sayin...

Most hams who rally against CB starting out on CB. That's one reason I've avoided getting a ham ticket is because I don't wish to turn into a butt!

Go ahead and get your Ham license I am from the south and proud of it. I got my ham license some then found out some don't like my southern accent but they can get over it.

I have ran into some of those pencil neck geeks who think they have to talk like so proper I sit back and laugh imagining them with the tape in the middle of their glasses and pocket protectors,I have been listening to field day and one of these geeks actually told some poor guy he could not understand him and said he didn't know what to tell him except he needed to talk with more authority...imagine that.

I waited until 20 years after being asked to join the Ham community before I got a license for the reason I thought most were geeks but found out alot are good people so after that I decided there is room for everybody and if they do not like what I say or the way I talk they can get over it ......go for it and enjoy I guarantee you will make friends if it isn't nothing but a small group I bet you will have a good time with them,I have so far.

zzdiesel, you only turn into a butt if THAT's what you

want. Being a ham doesn't turn you into a butt. spd640 said a lot in his post. It's what YOU want to be. I've know some really great people that were hams, and I've know some reall jerks that had their ticket. It depends on you, and you alone.

Like you posted, bite the bullet and go for it.

You'll enjoy it. And when you come up against the sexual intellectual on the air waves, just ignore. There's a lot of fun doing a QRP DX, (that's just one example), worked all states, continents, etc. Passing the test and getting your ticket is very easy. BTW, getting the study material is supper cheap too. Just Google and you'll find websites that'll have everything you need, lots are free. Go on, I dare ya...lol

Hey hams, if you have such a problem with it... STAY OUT OF THE CB FORUM! You are not going to change the world by citing FCC rules, nor will you legitimately change anyones intentions when it comes to illegal use of a CB. Most of you will live a much happier life if you only worry about things that DIRECTLY effect you. and by effect, i mean harm you or a loved one. I don't call in everyone who is speeding just because I can, I don't flag down a cop when i see someone parked in a no parking... just get over it guys.

One does not have to be a "ham" to resent getting interference from CB users running illegal power, overpowering my own signal or splattering several channels across the band. I have as much right to use the CB channels as anyone. I would really like to be able to carry on intelligent LOCAL conversations, but usually can't, because some A##hole from another state is babbling away.

Regarding your speeding analogy - true , most of us have disobeyed the speed limit on some occasion, but tend to stay within a few mph of the limit "just in case" there is a radar cop waiting up ahead. I'm sure you, as well as most others, secretly want the really "bad" speeders - the ones going +20 mph over the limit or more, and maybe weaving in a out of traffic - to get caught and ticketed. Yes, I know that the anaogy is really not 100% true because speeding has potentially lethal consequences and illegal CB use does not. But the intentions are the same - create a set of rules of the road to allow users to share a limited resource. Most people tend to follow those rules once they see it is in their own best interest, and resent those that violate the rules. Think of any human activity - proper dress at some restaurants, rules of conduct in sports, loading and standing in an elevator, waiting in a ticket line - there are certain accepted rules that exist so that we can peacfully get along with each other. Wouldnt you complain if I cut in front of you in line at the movie theater or be angry if I cut you off in traffic? Of course you would - and so would I if you did that to me.

The rules for CB were not written soley to prevent users from having fun with it as a hobby. The rules were written to allow the maximum number of users to share a finite anount of spectrum. Those that break the rules, whether running excess power, tying up a frequency with stupid noise makers, etc are interfering with the legitimate use of the resource by other users who have a right to complain, whether holding a ham license or not.

Anyway - telling hams that they should stay out of CB forums ignores that fact that having a ham license doesnt disqualify them from using a CB if they want to.
