IMO, the goal of one’s own installation — base or mobile — is to try and overcome (compensate) for what the other guy has. Some extra power and
decidedly better ears.
It’s not bragging rights. It’s in establishing
and maintaining comms for as long as is reasonable (mobile, the time involved may be very short).
As to the radio, ask if it sounds clean. If okay, go on to next item. I’d want to improve the antenna system (station ground, also) even if more work, but has greater effect.
