Hello Arizonan's,
Just wanted to ask if Cochise County is a P25 or possibly a Harris, Nextel radio system? I spent two weeks in Tucson AZ, Two days in the Tombstone city area and could not pick up the listed radio reference frequencies. Maybe you could reeducate me and let me know. I was using two Whistler TRX-1's, and both came out negative for reception. My wife and I enjoy coming to Arizona once a year. Thanks for your time in this issue.

Cochise County operates a P25/II system for CCSO, Tombstone Marshal's Office, Sierra Vista PD, County FD. among others. Other agencies may still use analog systems or have some access to CCSO's P25 system.

I was just down there a couple of weeks ago. It's P25 type 2 and I did hear a fair amount of traffic while I was in Tombstone.

I'm not familiar with the TRX-1, is it capable of Phase 2 trunking?

Forget my earlier post, I looked it up and the TRX-1 does receive Phase 2 systems so this is not the potential problem I thought it might have been.

When I looked up the TRX-1 I noticed it has 4 batteries. I wish I had bought it rather than the BCD325P2, which only has 2. Excuse me for getting off topic here.

I wonder why you weren't getting any receptions when others did? That remains the mystery here.

Here is a good bit of information that will help you moving forward to know if all these trunking systems are either a Motorola or a Harris System.

If you ever see a WACN that is BEE00 its always and i mean always a Motorola System. If its a WACN that looks like a Zip Code or a bunch of numbers its always a HARRIS System. Hopefully this should help you out moving forward. The Tucson area is a full Motorola System.

This Neveda Statewide System is a Harris system as well as the whole state of Utah moving forward is a full Harris system

The BCD325P2 actually does fine on the Cochise County Trunk System. Wonder if your TRX-1 was not picking up the correct sites? Mule Mtn. should yield reception down into Tombstone.

I would stay away from the TRX-1. Uniden SDS-100 or the Unication G-5 Dual Band VHF/700/800 radios.

I would buy the Unication G-5. Probably your best bet.

The system is on a Motorola P25 Phase 2 trunked radio system. SEACOM dispatches county law enforcement, the Sierra Vista Police Department (SVPD), and HCI medics, as well as about a dozen rural fire departments, which include Fry Fire District.

Fire West is used mostly for fire dispatching, and Fire East is used for patient reports, coordination, and relaying information. I've heard fire marshals on Fire East every now and then, but it is extremely uncommon.

There are also "Q channels" for each fire department that are used as tactical (TAC) channels. For instance, on a large Bisbee incident, Q23 (as far as I know) would become Bisbee Fire TAC. Fire TG 1 is patched with Q2 (Fire 2 SVFD) and is utilized by Fry Fire, Sierra Vista Fire, Whetstone, and Huachuca City.

On the law enforcement side, LAW 1 is the main dispatch channel, with LAW 2 being utilized as a backup when LAW 1 is congested with priority traffic. HCPD (Huachuca City Police Department) is also on LAW 1.

The Tombstone Marshal's Office (TMO) recently switched over to SEACOM on LAW 1. Presently, Douglas and Benson are the sole remaining independent PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) in Cochise County.
