For those who can access 800Mhz in Sydney, have a listen to Governor Phillip trunking (see frequencies in database), where you can monitor the organisers of a 3 day Cultural Festival (music, industry etc) taking place on the island over Easter. Access is by ferry only. People are encouraged to camp on the island for the duration of the festival.

From the blurb of one website:
Cockatoo Island 2005, held over three days and nights offers a huge line-up of great bands, DJs, solo artists, art exhibitions and installations, a mini Sydney Writers' Festival, a huge record fair, a club held in an amazing set of underground tunnels which need to be seen to be believed, an international beerfest, delicious food and wine, an outdoor cinema, massage, harbourside camping for the entire three days with early morning keen beans taking part in morning yoga sessions and a whole lot more.

Cockatoo Island was famous for it's former shipyards and has been basically off limits to the public for the last 10 years. The island lies at the junction of the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers, off Balmain. Two dry docks lie nose to nose on the island’s flat lower level. The upper level sits atop sheer-sided sandstone. A prison and over a century of shipbuilding activities have left a collection of workshops, cranes, towers, houses and courtyards.

So far I have found the organisers on the following talkgroups which I believe are short-term hire radio allocations. These talkgroups are heavily used during major events all year round
