Colleton County FD freqs

I just rode through Colleton County the other day and heard what sounded like Animal Control on 154.025, I'm pretty sure it was not fire department traffic.

Can anyone confirm this? If so, I can submit an update to the database here so that it's correct.

I last logged them in August of 2004. At that time, public works was using the channel (repeater) with landscaping and road repair. The Pl tone was 127.3 Hz.

According to the FCC database, the callsign shown in the Radio Reference database has expired. The frequency is no longer licensed to Colleton County or a municipality within the county (oversight?).

Anybody got the PL for the Colleton Rural FD freq (156.225)? Last few times for me in that area was with no traffic on the freq to search the PL. :roll:

I've never logged Colleton on the frequency, either, and I have a pretty easy path toward that area most mornings.

Also, I regularly monitor 156.225, as it's the local city pd channel.

The most-likely PL tones for the county appear to be 103.5, 127.3, 162.2 and 186.2 Hz.

Just an afterthought. On a good day, it's not very difficult to hear traffic from the NC / SC border areas while down toward the I-95 / I-26 junction.

Robeson County, NC's animal control operations are on 154.025 / 151.4 simplex. Robeson Co is the first county inside NC on I-95.

If you happen to remember whether the animal control communications were simplex or repeated, that would help distinguish between Robeson and Colleton Cos.

It was a repeater, so it must have been Robeson County, N.C.

There was a decent band opening that morning, so that would explain it.

which is why I banged it into my scanner for my trip.

If you locals have never heard anything on it and it's no longer licensed then maybe it should be removed from the database here.

Anyway, I have heard a barn burner or two on Colleton fire in the past, so it's neat to listen to them respond as I pass through.

Robeson is simplex, so it's likely someone else. Colleton PW is repeated.

My local EMS on 154.025 / 107.2 is repeated, and occasionally rebroadcasts an unid PW off their north repeater. I have about 15 agencies logged for 154.025 - including Clay County Schools near you - but no one else I can link with animal control.

I've found the same kinds of errors, and, particularly errors in PL tones and channel useage, among the databases for all the surrounding states.

Unfortunately, until I retire, I have a limited amount of time to maintain my own databases, keep up-to-date via the forums and lists, and do some monitoring.

Colleton Co PW confirmed

I confirmed that Colleton County public works uses 154.025 PL=3A (127.3Hz) as they were talking like mad last Friday as I drove through there. They discussed pipe work, getting some equipment moved, preparing a playing field for play, and other public works type stuff, so it is still used for that purpose, even if they forgot to renew the license. It's actually fairly easy for an administrator to forget to renew, plus the FCC has changed some of the requirements and procedures in recent years enough to trip up the casual admin.
