Collier Co EDACS Is it 9600 baud wide or 4800 baud narrow

Does anyone know which baud rate or wheather its wide or narrow band. I have a Uniden BC 296D and it asks for this info.

Also, do you hace to program each "Tower site" into a different bank ? I think site one covers most but maybe others are needed if farther out like Golden Gate Estates. I would like to program all 5 sites into one bank with the sellected talk groups.

Lastly, I have discovered that I need to know the LCN for each of the frequencies, in the proper order too. Where can that info be found. I see the talk groups and frequencies, but not the LCN's for the freq's.?

I have seen the site. Can I assume that the small number proceeding the frequency is the LCD?

I read somewhere that most 800 mhz trunked systems are 9600 baud and 900 mhz systems are 900 mhz. I guess if no one in Collier has first hand info to confirm, I will have to try both.

The Collier County system will be EDACS wide. Narrowband EDACS systems are usually in the 900 MHz band, like the kind that Florida Power & Light uses.

No, you cannot put all sites in the same bank. Each frequency must be entered in the proper LCN number, and each site must be in a seperate bank. Look in the RR Database, under Florida, Collier County, for this information.

Ken, thanks for the info. Wide band 9600 baud for Collier County. Each tower site must have its own bank and I can assume the small number proceeding the frequency numbers is the "LCD". They appear to be listed in LCD order on this site.

If I had another question for a local who knew the system it would be - what is the second most important site for the county? I guess you would ask me it depends on where you are located. Golden Gate Estates is the answer. I am wondering if the I-75 site is next closest. Is it near the toll booths ? Could I assume the Everglades site is somewhere along the 41 highway?

Yes, the small numbers before the frequency are the "LCN" (Logical Channel Numbers), not LCD. They must be entered in the order that they are numbered, LCN 1 must go into channel number 1, LCN 3 must go into channel 3, etc. This is why you must put each site into its own bank, as each bank has only one channel 1, one channel 2, etc.

I don't live on the west coast, so I can't help you with which is the best or most active site, etc.

Thanks Ken for clarifing this info. I visited Collier Co this past weekend with my BC -296 -D scanner all programmed acording to this web sites info and at first heard nothing. I then begun to check the frequencies themself and heard traffic loud and clear. I decided to try different mode settings for the system. I was programmed for wide band, tried narrow and it wasn't until I tried special mode did I start receiving scanned messages. For whatever reason it works in neither wide or narrow mode, but works great in special mode. I hear just about every talk group I programmed. I only had the Naples site programmed, but the signals seemed very strong even in the far reaches of the north-east part of the county. THis was with a handheld and no external antenna. So I was very pleased it worked as well as I could have ever hoped. I wonder if the Imok site simulcasts what the main site in Naples receives. I was in that little town way far north east and saw the 500 ft tower and it sure sounded like the signal was from that tower not Naples 25 miles to the south west. In any case, I was impressed at the coverage and reception. Thanks again ! Now if we could only listen to the FHP.
