I have a caller who reports that once a day the P25 system drops out and they can no longer hear it. They are about 10 miles away using a Yagi and most of the time it works just fine but then the system just totally drops out for a while before returning.

It sounds to me like they are losing the control channel but it happens pretty regularly so it doesn't sound like an issue with simulcast.

They are listening to the Naples Simulcast site.

Is there anyone near there that has had issues like this? Could it be the control channel changing for part of the day? AKAIK Harris systems like this change once a day, usually around Midnight but they are only losing it for part of the day during the day.

Has Communications International been called or at least the log files from the system manager been looked at?
Possibility the PA is falling back due to a bad jumper between the MSTR 3 and the can, or the can itself
is having an issue.

This is something that has to looked at on site. The system manager should show logs of the channel reporting an error.

The caller is a scanner user so has no standing to call in for repair or access the logs.

From 10 miles away with a yagi? Can the user go mobile and move closer to rule out a system control channel problem?
Maybe a cell site near his QTH is desensing his receiver? Maybe another agency nearer his QTH is on the Co or Adjacent channel to the control?

I would much more lean towards a programming issue on the receive side than the system completely dropping offline / loss of control channel.

So, has Collier decommissioned the EDACS 800 system and only uses the new P25 system now? I’m heading down there in a couple of weeks and would like to know what to program my Harris P7300 (EDACS and P25 phase 1 and 2) radio with. TIA

The EDACS System is off the air. Its the P25 system with almost all LE being fully encrypted. Florida style.

Was in Collier last nite. You’re right, all Naples PD and CCSO are encrypted. Was able to hear CCFD in the clear though.
