Heard Wylie FD Dispatch key up on Lucas FD 1 today on the Plano TRS - and call Plano Dispatch saying they were going to "tone Lucas" for a test page. Anyone know what that is about? Is Wylie going to take over dispatching for Lucas or just testing for mutual aid?

Wylie is joining the Plano System, so they are probably just testing.

You are sure of this - as Wylie used to be on the Plano system - and left. They are coming back on it now?

Yes they are joining the P25 system of Plano, sorry for the confusion.

EDIT- I was told that it has been a real pain for communications in Wylie on the clunky old LTR system. Especially for mutual aid calls involving patches between cities. And that is why they are going to joing the Plano P25 system.

Not the current system, they're not. TBD on the P25 system.

Correct. They Wylie City Council approved funds to participate in the coverage studies along with a few other things also included in the study.

The City of Wylie has not committed to actually join the Plano System.

Incorrect. It is To Be Determined, as in they haven't yet decided, to join the new system. They only agreed to pay part of the consultant's study.

Again Incorrect. Wylie has not committed to Dump the LTR and join the Plano System. Wylie has committed to participate in the coverage studies of the current system and the proposed coverage to the new system. The Wylie City Council was only asked for funds (and approved) for the study only. Wylie has not made any decisions on Dumping the LTR and moving to the Plano System.

The LTR works very well for Wylie. The system provides excellent coverage here in Southeast Collin County. Being the only UHF Public Safety system in the county does create interoperability problems. There are advantages in going back to a 800 system but again that decision has not been made. I am not saying it can not or will not happen but at this time no decision has been made. All options are still on the table. The Wylie City Council has not discussed it. It would require the approval of the Wylie City Council to make such a move and commit the necessary funds. All options are still on the table for the City of Wylie.
