I’m looking to get a SDS200 and we need to program my local police, fire rescue, and state police. I’ve never programmed one of these before, so this is all new to me.
I was looking at the radio reference database to see what the frequencies were. I see that some of the localities actually post the frequencies.
Chesterfield shows their fire and rescue as 154.160. But I do not see the Chesterfield Police on there.
As far as Dinwiddie, all they show are school bus frequencies. Everything else is project 25 phase 2. What does that mean?
If I’m not mistaken, Colonial Heights police department radios cannot be picked up with scanners. Are there any others in my direct area that are like this?
I see that the state police do have a few frequencies listed.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hi, Have a look here

Looks like a lot of the area uses this system. A lot of the law enforcement is fully encrypted. DE means full time encrypted. Also Virginia State Police just went to all encrypted. Everything on the STARS system is being reported as encrypted from reading others posts on the site.

Looks like Fire and EMS should be good. Plus things like the airport, utilities, railroad should be interesting to listen to in your area.

All police for this region are encrypted. State Police are encrypted as well.

The only PDs not encrypted on this system are VCU PD and University of Richmond PD..

Don't know if Capitol PD use this system or not. Never heard them on it, but they do have a few talkgroups. Could be encrypted I guess.

Fire and EMS on the Trunked System works well.

I live in Maryland, but deliver to region twice a week and mostly stay overnight on Tuesdays.

Use an BCD436HP picked up used for truck use and works well, as was just down there to monitoring when driving today.

I use other Uniden and older Radio Shack scanners for use in the hotel and all work well.

All the police are encrypted in this area?? Well that’s no fun
I’m really only interested in listening to Police and emergency services.
I could care less about trains or planes or school buses. Oh well, maybe I should just save my money.
