It's getting really bad. Now they're even encrypting scanners?
I'd sure like to know where I can get an encrypted scanner![]()
My thoughts exactly when I read the article headline. LOL.It's getting really bad. Now they're even encrypting scanners?
Me too! My local PD (Nashua NH) flipped the E switch on their 800MHz P25 trunked system earlier this year. The FD and public works are in the clear but no more listening to the PD at all.I'd sure like to know where I can get an encrypted scanner![]()
It represents some collateral damage but not the end of the hobby at all. There is still plenty of stuff to listen to.The hobby is totally ruined for us in Colorado.
With the recent memories of riots & looting in the streets it seems unlikely that any PD that's currently encrypted could be persuaded to go back to clear.
And in a related note- anybody know what freqs Antifa uses during their peaceful activities? I've heard that they use two-way radios but nothing more specific.
Family Radio Service (FRS) frequencies and FRS radios with GMRS frequencies? Walmart and Target carry several FRS/GMRS capable radios.
I am a ham radio operator and I rely on hearing public safety for any critical incidents to let other hams know to avoid those areas when something major happens like an amber alert , police activity, Structure fires, and Traffic accidentsThe hobby is totally ruined for us in Colorado.
Better remind them. Maybe they'll listen to the government. Amateur & Personal Radio Users Reminded Not to Use Radios in CrimesAnd in a related note- anybody know what freqs Antifa uses during their peaceful activities? I've heard that they use two-way radios but nothing more specific.

If everything on the system in question is encrypted, how would they know if some outsiders started using the system with their personal encrypted radios? Maybe even committing crimes in the process? I'm not advocating this but it would be interesting to see how the system owners would deal with it.
Well, that would be a good bit of irony, wouldn't it? But, would this be possible? I was under the impression, perhaps wrongly so, that a system administrator could control what radios associate with said system.
