Columbus Fire Level 1 Haz-Mat

At around 0800 there was a level 1 Haz-Mat hydrogen sulfide leak reported to Columbus Fire at Heartland Petroleum, 4001 E. 5th Ave., after further investigation would reveal a leak in the plant's plumbing. The leak was contained by 10:30 a.m and the plan of resolution was for a total of 3 enteries to cool 3 containers in the area by CFD Haz-Mat crews.

Roughly 4,000+ people have been evacuated, 1 individual was transported to OSU East and additional 12 individuals have been treated on scene after experiencing watery eyes and shortness of breath.Crews closed East 5th Ave from Steltzer Rd to Hamilton Rd.. Businesses afftected during this incident included DSW and Ohio Dept of Job & Family Services.
