Does anyone know where Columbus Police are on the frequency spectrum. Sheriff is on the state trunked system, I see the officers with kenwood radios. Are they on with the sheriff?

They are on the state trunked system, you just gotta find their TGID. Any 700/800 radio can use state trunk systems, it just that kenwood it cheaper that Motorola

I figured as much, but was more curious as they have 800mhz frequencies an addition to the uhf ones as well to the state system. The radios I saw had a uhf/800mhz style whip. But I have seen weird things in other places with police and fire being on ltr systems. But I saw fire talkgroups on the state system so that knocked that question out.

You do have some fire departments out there who still use there analog systems, most of them use it for paging or patch system.

Most of them 700/800 can be conventional simplex frequency, like radio to radio. Most fire departments use that as well if they can’t reach there Tac channel off that Trunking system or they in a building.

In the March, 2nd MSWIN meeting minutes it is noted that Columbus PD issued a procurement request for 67 Motorola APX radios for use on MSWIN. They were approved for all but one of them (APX N70), so if they have disappeared from UHF conventional, they are probably now on MSWIN.

I'm not sure if the N series has been approved by the WCC yet? That would be why.
Yeah that was why. It was interesting to note that they requested 60 APX6000s, and only 6 APX1500s. I guess they will operate primarily with portables only.

I read the minutes as well. They were wanting radios that weren't by MSWIN so they have to switch to something else..
Be safe
Not sure I follow. They were requesting radios not approved by MSWIN? If so, the way I read it is that they were denied (1) APX N70. They were approved to purchase the (60) APX6000s and (6) APX1500s.

Avery93 is correct. Last i heard they had the radios and were wating on chargers and remote shoulder mics. Should be getting N70 now that they are approved.
