I find myself in Columbus for about three months (or more) on a temporary railroad work assignment, I read that Columbus is pretty much all encrypted but I also hear very little other public safety traffic, some snippets from Platte County Sheriffs.

Am I missing something or perhaps my 436HP isn't up to the task here?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you're into medical helos, you might catch LifeNet 1-3 on 152.3825MHz PL 146.2. That's the Columbus repeater.

It may be perhaps that there is just very little traffic. Even in Lancaster county it is very quiet at times.

Platte County Sheriff's office uses the Nebraska Statewide P25 Radio system. NSP and all the surrounding counties law enforcement agencies also use this system. Columbus PD uses partial P25 encryption, fire is still analog, and the rural fire departments still use VHF analog. For the SRS make sure you program the Humphry and Osceola towers.

I know fire has been busy with EMS runs the past couple of days, so if you are not hearing Columbus fire recheck your programming.
