For the less-than-pc-literate, what's the easiest way to figure out the com ports for my computer?

In other words, which com port is my serial/DB9 port?

Sorry to put this under the decoders forum, but at least I am trying to figure out my com ports for use with UniTrunker. :)

The only honest answer I can give here is ... "it depends".

Check your computer owner's manual. You can use the Device Manager (available under the Control Panel) to see what ports are available.

Your computer may or may not have an on-board modem or IR port. Both can appear as an additional COM port. The simplest thing may be trial-and-error so try COM1, then COM2, etc.

I was kind of afraid of that.

The device manager is a good place to start.

BTW, UniTrunker is working great now. I'm getting 95-100 percent decod rate.

Hopefully it won't take me as long to get my voice scanner working as it did for me to get to this point.

This will save you some time ... run the "Tuner" app posted above. You should be able to walk through a half-dozen or so possible combinations in less than a minute. If the radio responds with your command to tune to a particular frequency - you've found the right set-up.

First - verify the correct baud rate for your radio. If the baud rate is wrong - you could have the correct port and not know it. Then try each of the possible COM ports.
