I've been wondering this myself, as I first started hearing them last year or so. I know for sure now they're not constables. I found out(courtesy of my roommate getting pulled over a couple nights ago by one) that the constables actually use 9xx numbers. The list you are referring to is still correct as the ACOs are also 9xx. And I had been confused for a while because I've been hearing 9xx units doing license plate checks and traffic stops, and I was wondering to myself why animal control would be writing speeding tickets. I still am not sure what the 4xx are. I thought at first the deputies concentrated around the river/Canyon lake area, but I've heard them in other areas of the county. If nobody here can answer it, I'm going to have my buddy ask another of his friends who is a deputy for Comal County, but he won't get the chance to meet up with him for another month or two.

That would very helpful if bud can get that info.. just post it or place it on file when you do.

Historically, 400's were CCSO reserves, and 300's were full time deputies. Since they have grown over 100 full time deputies, I believe they have spilled into the 400 series. Here's a breakdown;
100s NBFD
200s NBPD
300s CCSO
400s CCSO
500s Canyone Lake FD/EMS
600s Spring Branch FD
700s Bulverde Fire / 750s + Bulverde PD
800s Bracken Fire
900s Misc county(animal control, constables, judges, garden ridge pd)
1700s Bulverde Spring Branch EMS..
3400s DPS 3B08 troopers

Hope this helps.

Yeah, that helps a lot. I was wondering if CCSO didn't just have more people working, with their unit numbers having to carry on over to the 400's because of it.

That is a pretty good breakdown, except I'm pretty sure Garden Ridge PD uses 100's as their unit numbers(NBFD also uses them like you say but they're on the LCRA trunking system).

I've also heard 6200's troopers on CCSO as well, since all of this is going to be used to update the list for the Comal County page.

Montz, I think David is right in saying that some 62XX troopers are in Comal Cty as well (even though it is Reg. 3, it is a border county to Reg. 6). 62XXs are up and down US281 south of Blanco (and usually don't go too far in to Comal Cty- but they do take FM306 from 281 to I-35 pretty often). Usually the 62XXs will stay in Region 6 by taking US281 from Blanco to San Marcos/I-35 by way of RR32/12.

As for the game wardens in this area I am hearing 95% 51XX unit numbers. They are calling in to Austin 100% of the time.

Well, 6293 is definitely a state trooper because I watched (and heard on the scanner) him pull someone over in a gas station right next to my house, and I was specifically listening for him on the CCSO channels when I saw this.

Though I'm not in any position to say who exactly the game wardens are because I've barely heard a peep out of the Parks and Wildlife frequencies in multiple years of listening to them. Most of the units I've heard have been of the 51xx variety, but that's probably because I'm region 5 district 1.

I've also logged over 30+ 62XXs as troopers. I even have some of their LCRA RIDs. It seems that the Region 6 DPS was issued their LCRA radios right after Hays County SO and before San Marcos FD/PD.

Hays SO RIDs are ranging from 10400s-10590s (so I've caught). DPS Troopers from around this region (I've caught 5 DPS LCRA RIDs) are in the high 10690s-10700s. From there it appears that Hays Constables are in the 10700s-10800s. Lastly, SMFD is high 10900s and interspersed with SMPD into the 11300s (Texas State Univ is 11400s).
