comet CAA-500 trouble-shoot question

I'm having a problem with my CAA-500 analyer.
has anyone experienced this problem:
my analyzer fails to operate under battery power. the batteries are fresh and installed correctly. I get the correct voltage at the battery connection/ plug and at the solder joints inside the meter.
The analyzer works just fine when connected to external power.
has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to correct / repair it?

Could be the ext power Jack is not switching to the internal batteries when the ext power plug is removed.

Thanks for the quick reply. My meter is now working. I set the meter down for a couple hours while investigating solutions. I came back to it and turned it on under battery power and it works. go figure.
