Some of our local group of hams have been viewing Comet P17/Holmes nightly. We operate on our local repeater - W5TCR/r 146.850 output with a PL Tone of 141.3 Hz. We're located in the northeast MS, northwest AL and south central TN areas. We call it a "Viewing Party". Some of you hams might want to consider the same for your location. Observing Satellites, Planes and other cellestial things in the sky keep it interesting too. Anyone locally is welcome to join us after dark each night.

Comet P17/Holmes is quite a sight if you haven't seen it.

Thanks and enjoy the spectacle.

It's awesome!

I don't have a telescope but the last few nights I've pulled out my old pair of Tasco binocs and have been watching it.

Wow! I haven't viewed it through the binoculars in a week or so. That is an amazing site. I've never seen anything like that before. With the annual Leonids Meteor Shower coming up this weekend, stargazing should be even more interesting. Have fun.

Which way do I have to look? We spent a good 30 minutes looking for it, or maybe we are all blind...

Is there a tracking site that could tell me to look N, S, E, or W and the elevation?

After dark, look between North and Northeast and up at about 30-35°. If you see the Little Dipper (Northeast after dark), then look to your left (almost North) and then look up about two handwidths above the same horizontal plane of the Little Dipper.

Sorry, I'm not Astonomy Literate. Hope this helps.

Happy Thanksgiving.
